Buying a Kia in Topeka
You want the right Kia, a fair figure and no pressure. Tell us how you drive. We will have the answers and the car ready when you come in.

The right Kia for how you drive, with the figures settled before you come in
You get the Kia that fits how you drive and a monthly cost you understand, with insurance added. Buying it takes a short visit. We also explain the ten-year warranty, term by term.
You may be choosing between a Seltos and a Sportage, or a Sportage and a Sorento. Whether a hybrid suits you depends on how you drive.
Then come the numbers. One is your monthly payment, with insurance, on the exact trim. Another is whether the warranty passes to the next owner when you sell.
We can settle the trim and the figures with you before you come in.
Below, we cover the warranty term by term, and each model by what you would use it for. We also cover the financing you can do from home. You can read any section on its own.

What buyers ask before choosing their Kia
Which Kia fits, whether it is here, your rate, fair numbers, the warranty and service after you buy.
Which Kia suits a family?
The Sportage for a family of four, the Sorento for five most days and seven some days, and the Carnival for car seats every day.
- Sportage: a family of four, with room for luggage
- Sorento: a third row ready when you need it
- Telluride: room for adults in the third row on a long trip
- Carnival: sliding doors that open wide for car seats
Ten minutes in a Sportage and a Sorento back to back shows you what photographs cannot.
Is the Kia I want here today?
Call first, and we will confirm the one you want is still here.
- The trim and the color you have in mind
- Whether it is here now or in transit
- What similar cars are here
- How long anything in transit is expected to take
Call ahead, and we will have the car you want out front when you arrive.
How long does the Kia warranty last?
Ten years or 100,000 miles on the powertrain for the original owner, with a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty alongside it.
- Powertrain: engine, transmission and drivetrain
- Basic: electronics, trim and air conditioning
- Anti-perforation: five years against rust-through
- Roadside help with a tow, jump start, lockout or flat tire
A certified Kia keeps the full ten years, counted from its original in-service date.
Can I know my rate before I visit?
Yes, pre-qualify on our finance page and you arrive knowing your rate, which we confirm with you.
- Rates from Kia as well as local Kansas banks
- Lenders across the credit range
- All financing subject to credit approval
- The rate, the term and the total shown before you sign
Settling the numbers first makes your visit shorter.
How do I check the numbers are fair?
We list each figure separately.
- The car's price before your trade-in or any discount
- What we offer for your trade-in, on its own
- Each fee listed separately
- The rate and the term, in writing
Seeing each number on its own shows you what the car costs. It also shows you what the financing costs.
Where do I take it for oil changes after I buy?
Here, on Kia Express Service, in 60 minutes or less.
- Oil and filter, with a Genuine Kia filter and the oil your model requires
- A tire rotation on the same visit
- Saturday service until 4:00pm
- A lounge with coffee and a comfortable seat while you wait
Book ahead, and we will have the parts ready before you arrive.
What makes Kia a good car brand
Every new Kia comes with ten years or 100,000 miles of powertrain coverage for its first owner. J.D. Power and the IIHS rate Kia models highly for quality and safety.
Ten years on the powertrain
A 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty for the original owner, with a 5-year/60,000-mile basic limited warranty alongside it.
Quality owners notice early
In J.D. Power's 2026 U.S. Initial Quality Study, the Carnival ranked number one among minivans and the K4 took top honors among compact cars. The study covers the first 90 days of ownership.
Top safety ratings
Five Kia models hold the 2026 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+. Among them are the K4, the Sportage (built after May 2025) and the Sorento (built after September 2025). U.S. models only.
Which Kia fits your week?
Tell us your longest weekly drive and what needs to fit behind the seats. From those two answers, we can show you the right Kia.
Contact usThe Kia buyer's guide for Topeka
1. Which Kia fits the driving you do?
Two questions narrow this lineup quickly. First, how often do you need a third row? That decides between the Sportage and the Sorento. Second, do you load car seats every day? The Carnival's sliding doors make the school run easier than any other Kia here.
A hybrid needs nothing at home, and your routine stays the same.
| Model | Body style | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| K4 | Compact sedan | Commuters, first-time owners, and anyone who parks in tight spots. |
| K5 | Midsize sedan | Drivers who want more back-seat and trunk room than the K4, in a sedan. |
| Seltos | Small SUV | City drivers who want the higher seat of an SUV in our most compact size. |
| Sportage | Compact SUV | A family of four, with room for everyone's luggage. |
| Sorento | Midsize SUV, three rows | Families who ride five most days and seven some days, with the third row ready when you need it. |
| Telluride | Full-size SUV, three rows | Families who fill the third row often, with room for adults back there on a long trip. |
| Carnival | Minivan | Parents loading car seats every day: the sliding doors open wide and make it easy. |
| Niro | Hybrid crossover | Drivers who want hybrid fuel economy in a small SUV shape. |
We sell each of these, and we can order the one you want. Sit in a Sportage and a Sorento back to back before you decide. It takes ten minutes in person, and photographs cannot show you the difference.

2. Pre-qualify at home and know your rate before you arrive
Pre-qualify at home on our finance page. You arrive knowing your rate, and we confirm it with you.
| What you pay | How often | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| The monthly payment | Every month | Set by the price, your deposit, the length of the loan and the interest rate. We show you each one before you sign. |
| Insurance | Every month | Your insurer quotes it on the exact trim, so you can have that figure before you sign. |
| Fuel or charging | Weekly | A hybrid such as the Niro lowers your fuel bill, and we can compare models side by side for you. |
| Servicing and tires | Yearly | We can walk you through the service schedule and tire prices for your trim before you buy. |

Get pre-approved before you drive overCurrent special offers
3. What Kia's warranty covers, and for how long
| Coverage | Term | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Powertrain limited warranty | 10 years / 100,000 miles | Covers your engine, transmission and drivetrain. |
| New vehicle limited warranty (basic) | 5 years / 60,000 miles | Bumper-to-bumper cover, including your electronics, trim and air conditioning. |
| Anti-perforation (rust-through) | 5 years / 100,000 miles | Protects against rust and corrosion, and covers perforation from the inside out. |
| Roadside assistance | 5 years / 60,000 miles | Help with a tow, jump start, lockout or flat tire. |
The ten-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty covers essential engine, transmission, axle, differential and propeller shaft components for the original purchaser. A certified Kia keeps the full ten years, counted from its original in-service date. Buy new here, and the full ten years are yours. Buy used, and we will tell you exactly how much coverage is left.

4. Certified pre-owned versus an ordinary used Kia
A certified Kia's coverage starts on its original in-service date, at zero miles. So a three-year-old certified Sorento has up to seven years of powertrain coverage left, up to 100,000 miles in total. A five-year-old one has up to five years left. We can look up that first-sale date, called the in-service date, in a moment.
The right choice depends on how long you plan to keep the car. If you keep it eight years, the remaining powertrain years give you the most. If you keep it two, the inspection gives you the most.
| What certification adds | The term | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| 165-point inspection | Before it can be sold as certified | Every certified car you look at has passed it. |
| Powertrain limited warranty | 10 years / 100,000 miles from the original in-service date | You get the years and miles that remain. |
| Platinum coverage | 1 year / 12,000 miles | Comprehensive coverage, starting on your purchase date. |
| Roadside assistance | 24-hour roadside assistance | Help at any hour with a tow, jump start, lockout, flat tire or fuel delivery. |
We list certified cars separately from other used cars. You can price the same model both ways in one visit and compare.

5. Do you need an appointment to service a Kia?
Tell us whether you are waiting or leaving the car, and we will plan the work to match.
| What you want | How it works here | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| No appointment | Walk in | You can stop by without booking. |
| Fastest turnaround | Book ahead | We have the parts ready before you arrive, so your visit is quicker. |
| Somewhere to wait | Customer lounge | Coffee and a comfortable seat while you wait. |
| Saturday service | Open until 4:00pm Saturday | Service on a Saturday, so you keep your weekdays for work. |
Our service department is open Saturday from 7:00am to 4:00pm. That gives you a day for any job that does not fit into your work week.

6. What a Kia costs to run once it is yours
Your Kia gets full synthetic oil from the first oil change. It costs more per visit than conventional oil. The owner's manual requires it for turbocharged engines, so it is what we use.
Ask us what a set of tires costs for the trim you like. We will price it with the car.
| Running cost | What to expect | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Oil changes | Full synthetic | Many Kia models require full synthetic, and we check the grade for yours. |
| Routine maintenance | Express Service | Core maintenance in 60 minutes or less, so you can fit it around your day. |
| Tires | Varies by trim | Tire size depends on the trim, and we price a set for the trim you choose. |
| Inspections | Included with service | Your multipoint inspection comes with the visit, at no charge. |
Ask us for the maintenance schedule for your model when you buy. You will know which visits are small and which are larger, so you can plan ahead.

7. Routine work, done in about an hour
| Job | Part of Express Service? | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Oil and filter change | Yes | You get a Genuine Kia filter and the oil your model requires. |
| Filters, bulbs, fluids, wipers | Yes | Handled in the same Express visit as your oil change. |
| Battery | Yes | Battery work fits into the same Express visit. |
| Multipoint inspection | Included | We check your brakes, tire tread, steering, suspension and exhaust. |
| A repair the inspection finds | Booked separately | You see what we found and decide when to book the repair. |
Kia Express Service handles quick jobs while you wait, such as oil changes, tire rotations, filters and wipers. If your job is small, tell us when you call. We will send your car to the express lane.
You save the most time by pairing jobs. Adding a cabin filter, new wipers and a tire rotation to an oil change takes minutes. The same three jobs on separate visits take three trips. Ask your advisor what is coming due, and we will do it all in one visit.

8. Hybrid or gas: which one fits your week
| If this is you | The one that fits | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| You want lower fuel bills, no new habits | A hybrid | You keep your routine exactly as it is. |
| You park on the street | Hybrid or gas | Either one fits wherever you park. |
| You tow or drive long rural distances | Gas or hybrid | Tell us the trailer and the route, and we will match the model. |
See hybrid inventoryCompare the lineup
9. Driving in from outside Topeka
| Coming from | How close | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Topeka | Local | A quick call, and we confirm your car is here before you set off. |
| Silver Lake, Rossville, Auburn, Meriden | Nearby towns | We serve buyers from these towns, and a call first confirms your car is here. |
If you are coming from out of town, you can pre-qualify online first and spend the visit on the drive.
Coming a long way for a specific car? Ask us for a walk-around video before you set off. Two minutes of video shows you the car and its condition, so you make the trip once.

10. Value it online before you visit
| Step | When | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Value it online | Before you visit | You arrive with your own figure to set beside our written appraisal. |
| Bring the paperwork | To the appraisal | Service records, both keys, and the title or your loan payoff amount help your car get a strong appraisal. |
| Two separate figures | At the desk | Your trade value and the Kia price, shown apart, so you see what each is worth. |
| In writing, dated | Before you sign | The figure we give you is the figure you sign. |
Your trade-in gets its own figure, separate from the price of the Kia. You only pay the difference between the two. Seeing them apart shows you exactly what each one is worth.
A Kia traded for a Kia is a simple appraisal. Any make appraises well with a full service history and a clean underbody. In winter, a wash every couple of weeks keeps the salt off.
If your car still has a loan on it, ask your lender for the payoff amount. That is what you still owe. Ask for a figure from the week you visit. A current figure lets us show you exactly what your car is worth to you once the loan is paid.

11. A Kia through a Kansas year: ice, hail, heat and the underbody
| Season | What it does to a car | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Winter ice and salt | Rust underneath, and less grip on the road | Winter tires help you stop. An underbody wash every couple of weeks keeps the salt off. Kia's five-year Limited Anti-Perforation Warranty covers perforation from the inside out due to factory defects. |
| Spring hail | Dents, and sometimes glass | Covered parking when hail is forecast, and your comprehensive insurance handles hail damage. |
| Summer heat | Wears the 12-volt battery and works the air conditioning hard | We test your battery from the third summer and check the air conditioning in spring. |
Topeka gets all four seasons at full strength. Winter calls for grip and a clean underbody. In spring, park under cover when hail is forecast. Summer heat is hard on the battery and the air conditioning. A Kia handles all of it, and ten minutes of care each season keeps it that way.
Your comprehensive insurance covers hail damage, so it helps to know your deductible before the season. When the sky turns green, park under a roof.
12. The first month with a new Kia
Set up your Kia owner account in the first week, while the paperwork is still handy. It keeps your warranty and service history in one place, so any later warranty claim goes faster.
Your owner's manual shows the oil your engine needs. At the first service, we check the right oil grade for your car by its VIN.
| When | What to do | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Day one | Go through the paperwork together | We go through the VIN, trim and price with you at delivery. |
| First week | Set up your Kia owner account | Your warranty and service history, kept in one place. |
| Before the first service | Book ahead | We have the parts ready, so your first service takes about an hour. |

How is Briggs Kia rated by customers?
We hold 4.6 stars from 1,900+ Google reviews.
What areas does Briggs Kia serve?
Topeka first, and the towns around it. We work with buyers from Silver Lake, Rossville, Auburn and Meriden.
Buying new
Which new Kia models do you sell?
We sell the K4 and K5 sedans and the Seltos, Sportage, Sorento and Telluride SUVs. We also sell the Carnival minivan and the Niro hybrid.
What is the difference between a Kia Sorento and a Kia Telluride?
Both have three rows, but they are different sizes. The Sorento is a midsize SUV with a third row for occasional use, children and short trips. The Telluride is full-size, and an adult can sit in its third row on a long trip.
If you carry seven people every week, the Telluride is the one.
Which Kia is best for a family with young children?
If you load children into car seats every day, it is the Carnival. Its sliding doors save your back in a way no SUV door does.
If you want an SUV, the Sportage fits a family of four and their luggage. The Sorento adds a third row for extra children on the school run.
What is the smallest SUV you sell?
The Seltos. It is city-sized, easy to park, and still gives you the higher seat many drivers want after a sedan.
Can I see several Kia models side by side before deciding?
Yes, and it is the quickest way to choose. Sitting in a Sportage and a Sorento back to back takes about ten minutes and shows you what photographs cannot. Call ahead, and we will have the trims you want ready when you arrive.
Financing and payment
Can I get pre-approved for financing before visiting Briggs Kia?
Yes. Our site has a pre-approval form and a payment calculator. You can see what you can afford before you drive over. Settling the numbers first makes your visit shorter.
Does Briggs Kia work with buyers who have poor credit?
Yes. We work with lenders across the credit range, and with buyers whose credit is less than perfect. All financing is subject to credit approval, and we can start that conversation by phone.
Which lenders does Briggs Kia use?
We work with local and national lenders. We offer rates from the manufacturer as well as from local Kansas banks.
What finance rate will I get?
Your rate is confirmed when you apply, subject to credit approval, and we show it to you before you sign.
What costs should I budget for beyond the monthly payment?
Three to plan for: insurance, fuel or charging, and servicing and tires.
Get an insurance quote on the exact trim before you sign. Ask us what a set of tires costs for that car.
Used and certified pre-owned
What does Kia Certified Pre-Owned include?
Every certified vehicle must pass a 165-point inspection. Certification adds a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, 1 year or 12,000 miles of Platinum coverage, and 24-hour roadside assistance.
When does the Kia certified warranty start?
It starts on the vehicle's original in-service date, at zero miles. So a three-year-old certified Kia has around seven years of powertrain coverage left.
Is a certified pre-owned Kia worth paying more for?
It comes down to how long you plan to keep it. If you plan to keep the car for years, the remaining powertrain coverage gives you the most. If you plan to sell within a couple of years, the 1-year Platinum coverage gives you the most.
Does Briggs Kia sell used cars from other manufacturers?
Yes. Our used cars include other makes as well as Kia. We list certified cars separately, so you can price the same model both ways in one visit.
Do you have used cars under $15,000?
Yes. Call us, and we will tell you which used cars under $15,000 are here now.
Trade-in and selling
Can I trade in my current car here?
Yes. We write down your trade-in value as its own figure, beside the price of the Kia. You see what each one is worth.
Can I sell my car to Briggs Kia without buying one?
Yes. We buy vehicles as well as sell them. Ask our sales team what we will pay for your car, and we will put the offer in writing.
Visiting and test drives
Do I need an appointment to test drive at Briggs Kia?
No, but booking helps. Call ahead, and we will have the trim you want ready when you arrive.
What should I do before visiting Briggs Kia?
Three things, in this order. Work out your monthly budget, and get pre-approved. Then check with us that your vehicle is here. Do those three, and you arrive knowing what you want and leave hours earlier.
Is Briggs Kia open on Sunday?
No. We are open Monday to Saturday. On Saturday, sales runs until 6:00pm and service until 4:00pm.
Service, parts and ownership
Do I need an appointment for service at Briggs Kia?
You can stop by without an appointment. Booking gets you out faster, because the shop can have the parts ready before your car is on the lift.
Are Briggs Kia's technicians Kia-trained?
Yes. Our technicians are factory-trained, certified, and follow factory-approved procedures, with regular training and Kia's technical bulletins. That is most important while your car is still under warranty, because warranty repairs need factory-approved procedures to stay valid.
What time does Briggs Kia service close on Saturday?
4:00pm. Service opens at 7:00am on Saturday, and we are closed Sunday.
Is there somewhere to wait while my Kia is serviced?
Yes. Our service department has a waiting area, so you can wait without arranging a ride. Ask what is available when you book.
Does Briggs Kia use genuine Kia parts?
We fit genuine Kia parts, made for your car, so every part fits and matches the quality of the original.
How long is the warranty on a new Kia?
Kia's New Vehicle Limited Warranty runs 5 years or 60,000 miles on most vehicle components and systems. A 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty sits on top. The 10-year term covers essential components of the engine, transmission, axles, differentials and propeller shafts.
What else does Kia's new car warranty cover?
Alongside the basic and powertrain terms, a new Kia carries a 5-year/100,000-mile limited anti-perforation (rust-through) warranty. It also has 5-year/60,000-mile roadside assistance. Your Warranty and Consumer Information Manual has the exact terms for your vehicle.
Can I order Kia parts from Briggs Kia?
Yes. Our parts department has an online order form.
Hybrids
Which electrified Kias do you sell?
Hybrid versions of the Sportage, Sorento and Carnival, and the Niro. We confirm which are here the week you visit.
Should I buy a hybrid Kia?
A hybrid needs no charging at home and fits your routine as it is, so it suits most Topeka drivers. Ask us which hybrids are here when you visit.
Trade-ins and Kansas weather
How do I get a fair trade-in number here?
Value the car online first, and bring the records and keys. We put your trade-in value and the Kia price in writing, as two separate figures.
How do I keep my trade-in's value through a Kansas winter?
A clean underbody helps a trade appraise well. A wash every couple of weeks in season keeps the salt off.
Is hail damage covered by the warranty?
Hail is covered by comprehensive insurance, so your insurer handles it. Have your deductible in mind, and park in a garage or covered parking when hail is forecast.
More buyer questions
How reliable are Kias now?
Every new Kia comes with ten years of powertrain coverage for its original owner. For a used Kia, its service records show how it has been cared for.
Which Kia safety features should I test?
Forward collision warning, lane keeping and the blind-spot monitor are standard on most current trims. We walk you through each one before your drive. Features can change between trims and model years, so we confirm the equipment on the exact car with you.
Model questions buyers ask
Is the Kia Soul a good car, and how long do they last?
Yes. The Soul is easy to get in and out of, and it holds a lot for its size. Its simple drivetrain lasts when it is serviced on schedule. It is a strong used value, and we judge each one by its service records.
Is the Kia Forte a good, reliable car?
Yes. The Forte gives you strong equipment for the price and low running costs. Serviced on schedule, it is reliable. Ask us for its service file and our inspection sheet before you decide.
Is the Kia Carnival all-wheel drive?
The Carnival drives its front wheels. For three rows with all-wheel drive through a Kansas winter, we sell the Sorento and Telluride. You can drive them back to back here.
What is Kia Connect and what does it cost?
Kia Connect provides features like remote lock and unlock, Find My Car, Remote Start and Climate Control. A new 2027 Kia with Kia Connect includes a complimentary 3-year subscription. Ask us which plan and price apply to the specific car.
People also ask
Which used Kias are the best buys?
Any used Kia with a clean service history is a good buy. Newer Kias and Certified Pre-Owned Kias carry the strongest coverage.
On an older car, we use the VIN to check that all factory service work and software updates are done. It takes a few minutes, before you buy.
What is the $3000 rule for buying cars?
The $3,000 rule says to have about $3,000 ready before you buy. That can be the cash price of a reliable used car or the down payment on a financed one.
It gives you room for insurance, tags and tires, which come with any car.
How to negotiate with Kia?
Work from the total price, including fees and taxes. Ask us for that total in writing, as one figure.
Have your trade-in valued as its own figure. Arrive pre-approved, and the conversation stays on the car.
Which model of Kia is best to buy?
The right one is the size you need. Seltos and K4 suit one or two people and mostly city miles. Sportage and Sorento cover most families, with the Sorento adding a third row for occasional use.
The Telluride and Carnival carry seven in comfort. Tell us what you carry and how far you drive, and we will have two ready to compare.
Which Kia is the best value?
The Sportage and K4 give you plenty of car for the price. Both carry the full new-vehicle warranty and a lot of standard equipment.
A certified pre-owned Kia is often even better value, because of the coverage it carries.
Price a new and a certified example of the same model in one visit.
Which Kia car has a 5-star rating?
Several Kias hold a 5-star overall crash rating from NHTSA, the Telluride and K4 among them. Several Kia models have also earned the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award.
Ratings change by model year. We will look up the rating for the exact year and trim.
What is the best time to buy a car in Topeka?
Two times of year stand out. New model years arrive in late summer and fall, when the outgoing models get the most attention. December is the end of the manufacturer's calendar year. The end of any month can help a little too.
The right car comes before the right date. Call us, and we confirm the car you want is here before you plan your visit.
