2017 KIA RIO for Sale Topeka Kansas

Overview

With three production cycles behind it, the Rio returns for the 2017 model year and kicks off its fourth generation of production. Making its debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, the new ride is now longer, wider, and shorter than the previous-generation model, and it features a bigger hood, longer front overhands, and a more upright C-pillar. Also, the Rio says goodbye to the SX trim for the four-door sedan bodystyle, with the EX now the top-of-the-line model; the SX still exists for the five-door hatchback, which is also referred to as the Rio 5-Door. The 2017 Rio is thus available as an LX and EX trim as a sedan; and as an LX, EX, and SX as a 5-Door.

Interior

The 2017 KIA Rio is designed and marketed as a subcompact car. Whether you go with the sedan or the 5-Door, you'd get 88.4 cubic feet of passenger volume. However, on the sedan, cargo volume is measured at 13.7 cubic feet, while the 5-Door offers a standard cargo volume of 15 cubic feet. You can expand cargo room by folding down the rear seatback. (On the 5-Door, the maximum cargo volume is measured at 49.8 cubic feet.) Front seating includes a 6-way adjustable driver's seat, with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob appearing on the EX and SX. Exclusive to the SX are leather seat trim and front-seat heating capability. A four-speaker audio system-which comes with AM/FM radio tuner, a single-disc CD player with MP3 playback ability, controls mounted on the steering wheel, and a SiriusXM® satellite radio subscription-provides the infotainment at the base level. (You'd get Bluetooth on the LX 5-Door.) On the EX, you get a few more additions, such as two extra speakers, cruise control, and remote keyless entry. The SX is unique with its rear camera display, HD Radio, UVO eServices in-car connectivity, push-button engine start, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, and a 7-inch touchscreen voice-command navigation system.

Exterior

At the base level, the 2017 Rio includes a black mesh radiator grille, power heated mirrors, and halogen headlights among its standard exterior features. The 5-Door also gets a rear spoiler for a heightened aerodynamic feel. Upgrade to the EX to get a pair of fog lights for extra illumination when needed. On the SX, the side mirrors get power foldability and turn-signal indicators, a power sunroof is added on top, rear combination LED lamps add an edge to the Rio's appearance, a row of LED positioning lights shimmer below the headlights, and the headlights themselves are upgraded to projector beams and get auto light control capability. The LX trim rides on 15-inch steel wheels, while the EX gets 15-inch alloy ones. The SX uses larger, 17-inch alloys.

Mechanical

Rather than piecing several parts to a frame, KIA uses a steel unibody construction for the 2017 Rio. The result is a tiny ride that is nevertheless sturdy. To reduce turbulence on less-than-smooth driving surfaces, the Rio uses a MacPherson strut front suspension with a stabilizer bar and a coupled torsion beam rear suspension, with each end sporting gas shock absorbers. The Rio Motor-driven power steering not only provides sharp and precise handling, but also saves on the consumption of energy because it uses an independent power source instead of relying on the engine.

Powertrain

With a front-engine front-wheel-drive layout, the 2017 KIA Rio relies on the 1.6-liter Gamma inline 4-cylinder engine, which produces 138 horsepower at 6,300 RPM and 123 lb-ft of torque at 4,850 RPM. The LX sedan is the only model that comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission; the other trim combinations go with an electronically-controlled 6-speed automatic. Each gearbox includes Sportmatic shifter for greater control over gear shifting. Also included with the drivetrain is an Active Eco system, which shuts down certain vehicular functions to boost fuel efficiency.

Safety

The 2017 KIA Rio has an airbag system that comprises dual front impact airbags that face the driver and front passenger, a pair of side impact airbags installed on the front seats, and roof-mounted dual front and dual rear side curtain airbags for head protection. In terms of stopping ability, the Rio has with all-wheel disc brakes for quickened response to brake pedal pressure, an anti-lock braking system for preventing wheel lock-up during sudden stops, and electronic brake-force distribution for proper distribution of braking pressure. Also on board are hill start assist control to prevent the vehicle from rolling backward when driving from a parked position on a hill; and electronic vehicle stability control for keeping you on your intended driving path.
